5th in the world... for now!
So that’s that, as they say. I’m not sure who “they” are, but that’s what I’m sayin’ anyway. Not a bad season on the World Cup tour, near as I can tell. I’d be lying if I said there were not things that I would change, like a couple 12th place finishes, but the things I learned, those weeks that I did not perform well, were perhaps invaluable lessons that I hope will steed me well come the Games in February. I placed 6th, 5th and 5th in the last three races of the season. Two of those results were personal best finishes on tracks I’ve not had tremendous success on over the years and the other was some tough luck with a one run race. Results I’m proud of and can take with me to Whistler with some confidence to slide well and prepare for the single greatest opportunity I’ve had thus far in my life, a chance to represent Canada at the Winter Olympic Games. I welcome the pressure to perform as I find it an honour rather than a burden. I’m pumped to see the fans and walk in to Opening Ceremonies. I’ve be working for eight years, the same period of time other have become doctors, to realize this dream. And although I won’t be saving any lives, I hope by competing with class and strength that I can perhaps inspire some. See you on the start line at the Olympics in Whistler and be sure to cheer loud as I’ll take all the help I can get.
