End of one season, start of another
Well it’s been a nice break since the season has concluded. It was a strong finish to the year and a good place to start from next fall when we get back on the ice. I was 4th at World Champs and had a 6th in Park City to finish up 2008/09. After a couple weeks of training in Whistler on the Olympic track and a few weeks of rest and recovery I’ve been able to catch my breath and now I’m ready for the next leg… summer training. Should be busy and enough to keep me out of trouble. Last week I was in Lake Placid, NY showing Jacques Villeneuve, the Canadian race car driver, how to do skeleton. He took to skeleton like a duck to water… and the track was slow enough he was able to go from the very top and slide all 19 corners at the Lake Placid Olympic Track. This weekend I’m heading to the second Olympic Excellence Series (OES) in Vancouver in order to listen to presenters and participate in workshops designed to give us the tools to deal with media, pressures, expectations, and a host of other topics. When I return from the OES I will begin summer training and getting back into game shape. I’m a bit soft right now and am going to be feeling some pain in a couple weeks. Always tough getting back into it. I’ll be at home in June to make a couple presentations at some schools and am looking forward to the experience, as I’ve never spoken to a school before. I’ll be sure to drop a couple updates with my progress this summer.
